Our Advocacy Work

ACS engages in a wide range of advocacy activities designed to elevate the collective voice of Howard County’s nonprofit sector. A core part of this work is representing nonprofits on county boards and task forces, where we contribute to policy discussions, community needs assessments, and service coordination. We are currently members of:

  • Howard County Board to Promote Self-Sufficiency
  • Howard County Housing Affordability Coalition
  • Financial Empowerment Center Advisory Council
  • Local Health Improvement Coalition

During election years, we help educate candidates about the issues that matter most to our members and create opportunities for them to share their priorities directly with the nonprofit community. In the years between elections, we continue to deepen relationships with elected officials by offering opportunities for meaningful dialogue and ongoing engagement.

ACS also provides testimony on legislation that affects the nonprofit sector and the well-being of Howard County residents. In addition, we offer advocacy training and resources to help nonprofits feel equipped and confident in advancing the needs of the people and communities they serve.
