About HoCo Excel

HoCo Excel, Howard County’s Nonprofit Excelerator, is a partnership between ACS, the Howard County Department of Community Resources & Services, and the Community Foundation of Howard County. Its purpose is to help nonprofits strengthen their capacity, deepen their impact, and build long-term sustainability.

HoCo Excel supports local nonprofits through two key components:

Training

Interactive, hands-on training provides nonprofits with practical tools and best practices rooted in the Performance Imperative, a framework for social sector excellence. These sessions focus on core elements of effective nonprofit management, such as proposal writing and budgeting, board development, financial sustainability, governance, and program measurement. Nonprofit Excelerator Cohort

A group of five nonprofits was selected to participate in a three-year cohort designed to offer individualized support. Participants receive grant funding, one-on-one coaching, and customized capacity-building resources.

The first cohort, launched in August, 2024, includes CAPA (the Chinese American Parent Association), Equipment Connections for Children, Mediation and Conflict Resolution Center, Ohana of Howard County, and The Village in Howard.
